Band and Color Guard Directors
Travis Treadwell, Director of Bands
Travis Treadwell serves as the Director of Bands at McKinney Boyd High School. His teaching responsibilities include leading the Honors band, co-teaching the marching, symphonic 1 & 2 and concert bands, along with co-leading the Jazz band and assisting the feeder middle school band programs.
Mr. Treadwell is a native of Lubbock, Texas, where he attended Frenship High School and was a three-time All-State tenor trombonist.
Mr. Treadwell earned his degree in Music Education at Texas Tech University, where he studied trombone under Mr. James Decker, was a member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, and was a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Sarah McKoin. Mr. Treadwell is also a past president of the Kappa Kappa Psi Alpha Omicron Chapter.
Mr. Treadwell’s has spent the last year serving as Director of Bands for Independence High School in Frisco and for the three years before that as the Associate Director of Bands at McKinney Boyd High School. He also served five years in Fort Worth ISD at Paschal HS.
Mr. Treadwell’s hobbies include all things outdoors including fishing and camping. He mostly enjoys spending quality time with his wife Elizabeth and two dogs Ryder and Harli. Mr. Teadwell’s wife Elizabeth is a band director at Cobb Middle School in Frisco ISD.
Vanessa Santamaria, Associate Director of Bands
Vanessa Santamaria serves as the Associate Director of Bands at McKinney Boyd High School. Her teaching responsibilities include leading the Symphonic Band 1 and Jazz Band, co-teaching the Marching, Honors, Symphonic 2, and Concert bands, and assisting the feeder middle school band programs.
Ms. Santamaria grew up in McKinney, Texas, where she graduated from McKinney Boyd High School. During her time as a student at McKinney Boyd, Ms. Santamaria served as the Brass Captain and Euphonium Section Leader in the Marching Band and was a member of the Honors Band. Ms. Santamaria also played bass guitar in the Jazz Band and was a member of the Varsity Choir.
Ms. Santamaria earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Houston, where she studied euphonium under Mr. Danny Vinson, was a member of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band, and was a member of the Concert Band. During the 2010 season, Ms. Santamaria marched Baritone with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. Ms. Santamaria also holds a Master of Music in Music Education from Kent State University and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Lamar University.
Ms. Santamaria previously served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Quintanilla Middle School in Dallas ISD. Her professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Jazz Educators Association.
Ms. Santamaria’s hobbies include spending time with her family and pets. She has two dogs, Lily and Olive, and two cats, Elliott and Fynn.
Benjamin Cook, Assistant Director
Benjamin Cook serves as an Assistant Director at McKinney Boyd High School. His teaching responsibilities include leading the Symphonic Band 2, co-teaching the marching and other concert ensembles, and assisting the feeder middle school bands.
Mr. Cook is a native of Cedar Park, where he attended Cedar Park High School.
Mr. Cook earned both of his degrees from Texas Tech University, where he studied clarinet with Dr. David Shea and performed in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under Dr. Sarah McKoin. Mr. Cook additionally studied under Dr. Janice Killian and Dr. Keith Dye for his graduate work.
Mr. Cook has previously served as an Assistant Director for three years at Frenship High School in Lubbock, Texas.
Scott Gustafson, Assistant Band Director / Percussion Director
Scott Gustafson serves as the Assistant Band Director / Percussion Director at McKinney Boyd High School. His responsibilities include working with the Battery and Front Ensemble during marching season, directing percussion ensembles in the spring, assisting with percussion in all concert bands, and teaching the percussionists at Dowell Middle School.
Mr. Gustafson was raised in the DFW area. He attended Allen High School, where he was a two-time All-State percussionist.
Mr. Gustafson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas in 2014. While in school there, he performed with multiple percussion ensembles, including the UNT Indoor Drumline (under the direction of Paul Rennick), the Percussion Players (under the direction of Christopher Deane), and the 2’oclock Steel Band (under the direction of Mark Ford). He also marched Snare Drum with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps.
Mr. Gustafson previously served a year as the Percussion Director at Creekview High School in Carrollton. Prior to that, he spent four years as the Assistant Percussion Director at Frisco High School.
Manuel Rabell, Color Guard Director

Manuel Rabell is elated to serve his second year as the Color Guard Director with Mckinney Boyd high school. His responsibilities include rehearsal planning, choreography, technical program design and execution.
Mr. Rabell is a native of Orlando, Florida where he attended Colonial High School. At the start of his performance career, Colonial High School's Color Guard fundraised their first trip to Dayton, Ohio where they became the 2008 WGI Scholastic A world champions.
Mr. Rabell continued his performance career alongside Fahrenheit World, Orlando Visual, Pegasus World, as well as Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps and Phantom Regiment.
Within the last decade, Mr. Rabell has worked as a visual arts consultant specializing in technical program performance, technical enhancement and performance development. He taught a variety of performing art programs including: Clear Brook High School, Winter Park High School, Liberty High School, William R. Boone High school, Olympia High School, Lyman High School, Mckinney High School, Garland High School and Pegasus World.
He also served as the 2019 Color Guard caption manager for the Troopers Drum and Bugle corps.
Mr. Rabell's hobbies includes video games, poetry readings, and anything comic book/anime related. He and his wife Alicia spends the rest of their time with their 2 dogs Harley and Ellie.
Mr. Rabell's wife Alicia is the Color Guard Director at Celina High School in Celina ISD.
